The 1st annual Cardiff Kook Run 10K & 5K is a celebration of the greatest town on the map— on the greatest day of the year, Super Bowl Sunday, February 5. The scenic loop will begin at Moonlight Beach, pass under the famous Cardiff Kook along the 101, rise above some of the most popular surf breaks in San Diego and then make its way down to Cardiff State Beach.
Then you get to experience it all again on your way back.
Locals, kids, adults, serious runners and kooks alike are invited to run– for life, for community, for a really fun time.
Our community goals for the run are as follows:
1. Establish a foundation for the Safety and Preservation of the “Magic carpet ride” and surroundings
2. Fund additional P.E. programs at Cardiff Elementary.
3. Assist the community of Cardiff with park related funding

Race starts and finishes at Moonlight Beach, heading south through old downtown Encinitas, past Swami's and on down to Cardiff State Beach and then back again. Is any run on earth more beautiful than that? Fruit and water stations will be provided along the route (see map below) and also at the finish.

*Males and Females compete to win in all divisions.
The fastest over all male and female runner will be crowned Cardiff Kook Run Champions and as the first-ever winners receive the honor of their names engraved on the Cardiff Kook Run 10K Champion's Trophy.
• Prizes will be awarded to the top three athletes who best display the spirit of the Cardiff Kook
• The costume award ceremony immediately following the race
• Costumes will be judged as athletes cross the finish line
• Race completion times have no bearing on costume contest results
• Normal running attire is not considered a costume
• Athletes must be present at awards ceremony to receive award
Steve Lebherz & Seth Brewer, two locals. Steve has run this route on Super Bowl Sunday for more then 30 years. His son-in-law Seth and he came up with the idea a couple of years ago, asking the simple question "why are more people not out here!?" The rest is history.
An early run on Super Bowl Sunday eliminates some of the guilt as you indulge on chips, guacamole and beer later that day.
Yes. There will be water stations throughout the event, as well as fruit and water at the finish line. All supplied by our sponsors and Cardiff Seaside Market.
SURE! We encourage BOBs (Baby On Board) as this is a family event.
